3 Days 3 Quotes | Day 3

I have been tagged by wonderfully amazing Nicola over at Rust and Stardust to participate in the 3 Days 3 Quotes challenge, which I’m super psyched about. I’ve seen it floating around. Yet, I’m the type to wait to be tagged to do something and I’m very excited that Nicola chose me. ^.^ Without further ado, the rules.

Rules:
  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
  3. Nominate three new bloggers each day.
A Game of Thrones, Book 1 of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin
“Once you’ve accepted your flaws, no one can use them against you.”
― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

This quote, while taken from a high fantasy novel, rings true in real life. The struggle to find, understand, and accept ourselves is present in all people, no matter their age, and it’s one of the hardest trials we will face in life. It is also the most important.

From a young age we’re shown what’s expected of us: how to look, how to act, how to speak. All so that we may conform and fit in. Society teaches us to shame ourselves for our flaws: clumsy, quirky, nonathletic, unintelligent, but these are the very things that make us unique. To others they may seem like weaknesses, but to know one’s own weakness and accept it wholeheartedly, is what makes one strong.

That’s why I chose this quote. It embodies the courage we each must have to accept our differences so that we may be stronger in defending ourselves against those that would try to knock us down.

Nominees

  1. Michalah @ CAPE TOWN DREAMER
  2. Nicolette @ A little Bookish, A Little Writerly
  3. Cátia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much
