Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday: Book To Movie Adaptations (Nov. 10, 2015)

4e5c3-toptentuesdayWoop Woop! It’s Tuesday again, which means that it’s time for Top Ten Tuesday brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish. While I cheated last week, I’m going to try and be good this week and actually follow the theme of: Book to Movie Adaptations I Still Need to Watch/Am Looking Forward To! Without further ado, let’s get crackin’!

1) Mockingjay Part 2 (2015)
Well duh I haven’t seen this yet! It hasn’t come out yet! :p I’ve seen the other three movies and quite promptly since they always come out around my birthday (as this one does), but unlike the others I’m not sure how excited I am to see it. The movies started off great. However, they’ve kind of fallen in my interest since then (granted the last book wasn’t my favorite of the series… :/) Still, I plan to see it because I need to complete the series and be able to form my own opinion of the movie and whether or not they botched it from the movie version(as they did with specific details from the first book *sigh*).

2) The Scorch Trials (2015)
This one just came out recently so y’all can’t shun me for not having seen it quite yet, but to be honest I’m on the fence about it. I’m not even sure if I want to see it. Part of that is because I didn’t really enjoy the writing style of the books (or the ending of the series). It’s most definitely not my favorite dystopian YA. Additionally, I saw the first movie and it was wrong! Even if the book wasn’t my favorite the directors still completely screwed up the plot, how the maze works, the character interactions, and how they got out of the maze, and- and- everything! Ugh! I was so angry with that movie that I couldn’t even sit quietly the first time through it (and I only watched it once). So, now I’m not too excited about seeing Scorch Trials. However, I’ll probably watch it just to keep up with the series… :/ Lame, I know.

3) Beautiful Creatures (2013)
Okay. By the time that I knew this was even a movie it was well past the time of movie rental places meaning that I’m not even sure where to pick this movie up to watch it! It’s not on Netflix, nor Redbox, and I don’t have Hulu, or any of the other billions of movie places. For that reason I haven’t seen this yet, but I am still quite eager to see it (even though they changed how Ridley looks -.-). If anyone knows where I can watch/rent/whatever this, please let me know! Thank you in advance. ^.^

4) Ender’s Game (2013)
And another movie from 2013. Apparently I just missed this year completely for movies (and books because I didn’t read much in college at all *tear*). However, this book just arrived in my November TBR, which means that once I read it I will need to scrounge for somewhere to rent it/watch it/ etc. I mean, the graphics look good, which is promising. (I’ve seen enough bad scifi movies to respect good graphics), but graphics a movie does not make. Still, I have high hopes for the book and the movie (given what people have said to me thus far).

5) The Mortal Instruments (2013)
To be honest… this didn’t look interesting to me at all. The trailers that I saw when this movie was coming out didn’t interest me at all! I was like ‘and? the point of this movie is…?’ Granted, I’m not a huge Lily Collins fan, but since I’m going to be reading this series soon, I’ll have to watch this because that’s just how my brain works. Plus I’m trying to find movies from books that weren’t completely destroyed upon conversion. Perhaps this was one of the lucky ones?

6) Gone With the Wind (1939)
Don’t hate me! I have never seen this! I know it’s a classic and I know that I’m a fool for not having seen this. I guess it’s not really my style of movie. Not to mention I’m not one for movies made so long ago even if a lot of them are quite good. I guess I just never had the opportunity, but I realize that it’s a classic and to be considered a human being I should probably watch this…

7) The 5th Wave (2016)
Woo! Finally a movie that I haven’t missed yet because it hasn’t come out! :p I haven’t read this book yet, but it’s sitting on my nightstand and I’m super excited about it! The movie looks epic, too! Though, this is one where I’m gonna make sure that I read the book first because that’s just the way to go (and because then I can see if they were true to the book/casting was good. I’m super nit-picky about that kind of thing.)

8) 1984 (1956)
I have not seen any adaptations of this book (and there are a few out there) nor have I read this book. I avoided classic literature because of my bad experiences from high school, but this is a staple for dystopians and, given that’s the genre I write in, I feel it’s necessary to not only read the book, but watch the movie (multiple versions of the movie if I can find them). Being well educated and understanding the fundamentals and cliches of my genre will make me a better writer and I’ll finally be able to join in conversations about classical literature and movies. :p

9) Les Misérables (2012)
Yeah, yeah. I know. I’m way behind and completely missing out. I’ve heard how stupid I am for not having seen this movie yet, which is why it’s on my TBW list on IMDB, but to be honest I haven’t read the book either. I knew nothing about this book/story until the trailers for the movie started popping up and, while I love musicals, I wasn’t too eager to watch it. Even so, I have been pushed and prodded and now I will get around to seeing it (eventually) because again I don’t know where people watch movies any more! Ugh! This problem! Again and again! I will watch this! I promise! It just may be a while (and I should probs read the book).

10) Allegiant (2016)
Naturally this is going to be on this list because I’ve read the series, enjoyed it immensely, and seen both Divergent and Insurgent, which I was less than impressed about. However, I feel it’s necessary to stick with a series. I want to see how the third book will be adapted into a movie, or in this case(as is suddenly common with YA literature) two movies. There are rumors that things will change from the book for the final two movies and that leaves me quite excited, even though I actually quite enjoyed the ending of this book series. Anyway! Fingers crossed for a good adaptation: something that the YA genre seriously needs in movies right now.

There you have it! The movies I still have to see that were originally books. Have you seen any of this yet? Did you enjoy them? Most importantly, are they true to the books or did they just absolutely botch the plot? Let me know in the comments! I love hearing from y’all! ^.^

  1. Nice list! Honestly, in my opinion, The Mortal Instruments movie was awful, but I’ll let you decided after watching. I’ll definitely be watching Mockingjay Part 2 as soon as it comes out. I’m so excited, but scared and not sure if I’m ready for it to be over.
