Sisterhood of The World Blogger Award

sisterhoodOkay. Apparently I’m an idiot and didn’t see that the amazing and glorious Giovanna over at Book Coma nominated me for the Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award back on October 8th! I know! A month ago! I can’t believe this and I’m so apologetic to G. However, as a means of apologizing for being so oblivious I will now post it here and G gave me a few extra questions to answer so that she’ll forgive me! ^.^

Giovanna’s Questions

1) What are your top 5 reads for 2015?

2)What is your favorite genre and why?
Science Fiction! Why? Because it’s super broad and loaded with possibilities! :p I really enjoy the sub-genres of dystopian because it allows for and expects corruption of the government, which is fun to play with, and post-apocalyptic because it allows for a brand new world. All societal rules can be thrown out the window and planned anew. Additionally I love scifi because of the technological capabilities. I mean! Genetic-splicing(my personal fave since it’s my degree. :p), hoverboards, holograms, teleportation, new weapons and warfare. The opportunities for corruption and world-development are endless!

3) Is there any genre you absolutely will NOT read?
Yes! I don’t read Westerns. Haven’t tried. Don’t plan to. Additionally, I don’t read Romance because I don’t find it interesting when it’s the focal point of the story. When romance is a plot-driver I find it cheesy and boring. Sorry, but no.

4) About how many books do you have in your TBR?
Umm… >.> This is embarrassing. At least 120 books. *cough* I know. I’m literally drowning in the number of books that I want to read and the worst part is I still don’t owe most of them. I only own like… a quarter. No. Not even. Like 1/6th! Ugh!

5) Who is your favorite fictional character?
Favorite fictional character. Hmm… To be honest, I’m not sure I have a favorite character just because characters are all so different from each other and nearly impossible to compare. However, I did really enjoy reading from Cassandra Leung’s POV in ‘The Abyss Surrounds Us’ by Emily Skrutskie. Her growth was really well done. She was probably one of the most realistic characters I’ve read about in some time. To see why I love her read my review.

6) What is your favorite book turned movie?
Ugh… this is really hard because a lot of the books turned movies I’ve seen have really botched up the plot line or had a terrible cast. Bleh! However, I have to say that I actually quite enjoyed ‘The Giver’. It was a little different from the book, but it kept the main concepts and was done very well, unlike many of its YA counterparts.

7) What is your favorite Movie and/or TV Show?
Oh no. More favorite questions. -.- Don’t y’all realize that there’s no such thing as a favorite?! I mean, there are so many amazing movies and tv shows in the world that I couldn’t possibly pick just one! That’s like telling me not to breathe air anymore! Ain’t happenin’ son! *sigh* Okay, if you’re gonna twist my arm and make me pick something then I guess that one of my favorite TV shows(even though it’s no longer on the air) is Wildfire. And yes! I do ship Junior and Kris! Deal with it!

8) How long have you been a Book Blogger?
Haha! A book blogger? Like a month. :p My blog wasn’t originally started as a book blog. I only added book reviews to it in October, but I really enjoy it. It allows me to interact with a wider array of people and it also gets me reading more, which, as you can see from my excessively large TBR, I need to do. :p

9) What are some of your hobbies besides reading & blogging?
Oh gosh! Running, biking, hiking, ice skating, dancing, playing violin and attempting piano, acting(film & theater), learning languages, writing novels, watching movies, playing video games. Okay. I’ll stop there. Haha! I have a wide array of hobbies. I like to think that I’m too eclectic for my own good. :p I never have enough time for everything in the day.

10) What is your dream job?
Dream job… Huh. To be honest, I’m not sure that I really have a dream job because I can’t really see myself doing just one thing the rest of my life. Perhaps if I could be a professional traveler or professional job hopper. :p That’d be kind of cool because I’d get to try lots of different things. I decided long ago that I don’t need to be the best at something because it’s ten times more being mediocre at lots of different things. There’s always something to talk about. ^.^

Extra Questions

1) What is your favorite Holiday?
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving! I love the food, the atmosphere, the cold weather, the colorful leaves, the crisp smell in the air, the coming together of family! Everything is so amazing (and my birthday falls on it every few years. So I get cake, too! :p)

2) How many siblings do you have?
Technically I only have one sibling: an older brother. However, I have two pseudo-sisters(one older, one younger) who were my exchange students a few years ago. After all, blood isn’t the only thing that determine family. ^.^

3) What is your favorite animal?
My favorite animal is a ring-tailed lemur! I know, super specific. :p I love monkeys because they’re adorable, fluffy, energetic, and can climb up trees without any struggle(a skill I’d love to have!). However, I love lemurs out of all the monkeys in the world because they’re just the most adorable things on earth with their striped tails! (King Julian from the movie ‘Madagascar’ is a ring-tailed lemur and he’s awesome!)

4) What is your favorite color?
Red. No, blue- AH!!!! :p Just kidding. My favorite color kind of changes all the time, but I generally go back to green. I just really like green. :p

5) Do you have any pets?
I do! I have a cat, Mittens(19 years old). He’s super lazy, but purrs really loud! And a dog, Roxy(8 years old), who is like the energizer bunny and loves to play keep away. ^.^
Mittens Roxy

6) Is there a book you HATED reading this year?
YES! ‘Red Queen’ by Victoria Aveyard. I just absolutely, positively, and completely hated this book! It had so much potential and it didn’t utilize any of it! I was super disappointed, especially after all the glowing praise it received. I hated it so much that I haven’t even been able to finish my review of it. I just… can’t.

7) If you could rewrite ANY book to make it better, which book would it be?
Hmm… :/ This is a tough question. I’m not sure I’d want to rewrite a whole book because that’d be a lot of work, but there are definitely certain elements or scenes I’d like to change in books. Though, if given the chance, I’d probably rewrite ‘Red Queen’ by Victoria Aveyard. I know. I know. I’m super stuck on this book, but I was SO excessively disappointed! A unique world, which died on the coattails of every plot cliche known to man.

  1. You think 120 TBR books is bad?! I have over 2,000 TBR books and yes, i own them (Kindle format), I have issues. God I hope my cat lives as long as yours. She’s 15 years old but has been having epilepsy fits because her kidneys aren’t working right. It breaks my heart. LEMURS ARE THE CUTEST THINGS EVER! P.S. found a PDF of the Wallbanger fanfiction 😀

  2. I promise I am not really stalking your blog!…

I’m with you on the not reading Westerns. The closest I got was Stephen King’s The Gunslinger.
Ooh, I saw The Giver the other week but I haven’t read the book yet. Enjoyed the read yet again, Melanie, and your pets are super cute 🙂

    1. Bahaha! Stalk away! :p
I haven’t really read a western before bur based on the movies I’ve seen I’m not a huge fan of the themes and plots. :/
Read the book! The Giver is awesome and a staple in the dystopian genre. ^.^
Thank you! I miss them terribly as my parents are taking care of them at the moment. Hopefully they won’t forget me! :p

Okay, it’s on my list. I’ll let you know what I think. I don’t normally watch first then read!

      1. well, at least this one is super short 😛
but if you don’t like it, I totally get it, I also have few genres that I definitely won’t read
and as for western – this was the only book or short story I read that I liked 🙂
