On the 5th day of Christmas…

advent5The Village

So many decorations go along with this time of year and I’ve talked about quite a few so far: the tree, the nutcrackers. Well, here’s another one for you. The Village.

Hold the phone. Not the horror movie. :p This is an adorable, bite-size Christmas village, which my family puts on display every year as part of our holiday decorating. We have houses, churches, shops. There’s a skating rink with skaters that move in circles and figure-eights. Tiny trees decorate the land and lights brighten up windows. It really is a mini village all dressed in winter style.

Where do I find some of these adorable houses myself?

Great question! I imagine there are dozens of places that build and sell tiny houses, but the one with the most variety, and the one which my family always buys from, is called Department 56. This company has been making pieces for Christmas villages since 1976 with just 6 pieces. Now they make enough items every year to have themes: Frozen, Harley Davidson, Mickey Mouse, Coca-Cola, and dozens upon dozens of other themes in addition to the original houses.
