New Year: New resolutions

It’s that time a year again. New year’s… This year it marks a new beginning to me, as I’m moving abroad permanently to start my post-graduate life as a grown-up (…ish) with a 9-5 job. I cannot wait for this next chapter of my life to begin! It’s been a long time coming, and I’m more than ready for this next adventure in Amsterdam, Holland, to take off.

With new year’s and new beginnings, though, comes new resolutions. I’m not one to set myself unreachable goals – I like to keep it realistic: What changes in my life are important for me to make, and what can I actually work on within a time frame of a year? As such, I’ve set myself three goals for the upcoming year of 2016.

1. Food Wisely

Having grown up in Scandinavia in an environmental friendly family, I’ve always been considered of the world and its resources. In other words, I try my best to keep an environmental friendly lifestyle. With that said, however, I’m aware that there’s always more to be done.

For a little over a year now, I’ve been looking into my food habits, as I’ve increasingly become aware of how big a difference you can actually make by eating organic and reducing your intake of certain foods – how you can actually make a difference to the world and take care of the environment through food. As a result, not only have I increased my intake of organic food, I have also reduced my meat consumption (because the production of meat pollutes A LOT). As for 2016, my goal is to only eat organic food and decrease my meat intake to a maximum of three meals per week.

Considering not only what GMOs and what have you not harms the environment, however, also harms your body, it has become important to me to eat organic. Although this is, of course, a bit more expensive, it is my goal to eat nothing but organic. Furthermore, considering how much the production of meat pollutes the world, it is highly important for me to reduce me meat consumption to a maximum of three meals per week. Ultimately, it would be a goal to not eat meat at all, however, I need to be realistic and take this change step-by-step. So for 2016, I will, simply, reduce my meat intake.

2. Economic Responsibility

Another goal for me to reach in 2016 is economical responsibility.
For the last five years, I’ve been a MA graduate slowly learning to be financially independent from my parents. At times, it’s been quite a struggle especially during my abroad stays, and I honestly couldn’t have existed without a little help every once in a while from my wonderful parents. In 2016, though, I want to finally become financially independent. It will take an effort to get there with an expensive rent in Amsterdam and a student loan to pay off, however, if I start by becoming more economic responsible, I should be well on my way to get there. So that’s the plan: Become economic responsible.

3. Acquire insight and understanding for Holland and the Dutch

My third and final goal for 2016 is to explore Holland to the fullest.
I’m one of those people who strongly believe that you should not only adapt, however, also assimilate to the foreign culture in which you choose to live in. However, moving to a foreign country and learning about the culture takes a lot of time and effort. Fortunately, it’s something I quite enjoy. As a result, I cannot wait to dig into the Dutch culture by meeting Dutch people, other expats in Amsterdam and traveling around the country. It’ll be quite the adventure.

So… Those are my new year’s resolutions. What are your’s?

Oh! And happy new year by the way! I wish you all a wonderful 2016 full of positive and adventurous events.

xo P!
