Flash Fiction Friday: Eye of the Storm

Wind whipped wildly. The screen door banged against the side of the house. The mailbox yanked from the ground. Clumps of grass never touched the ground. Bricks flew towards the window.

Suddenly, everything dropped. Dirt exploded against pavement. Debris cracked against the roof. A front door crunched the hood of a car.

Silence replaced deafening howls of wind. Clear sky replaced darkness. And stillness took place of chaos. The calm should’ve been welcomed, yet it chilled me to the bone. Shivers ran down my spine. Above, the clouds hung in a perfect circle… with me at its center.
