Flash Fiction Friday: Golden

A cascade of ivy wove back and forth, intertwining amongst itself like intricate lattice-work. The myriad of vines cast shadows. Crimson brick charcoaled beneath the shade, but not all was hidden.

Between the vibrant green leaves, golden eyes peered out. Fringed by long, dark eyelashes, they glimmered in the sunlight. Yet, a hesitance clung to them. Anxiety pinched their corners and furrowed dark eyebrows.

Catching movement beyond the wall of foliage, their attention flicked sideways. Gold gleamed iridescent. Purple fringed the edges, coalescing seamlessly with the warmer color, but darkness engulfed the cooler. In those eyes, a war raged.
