Oh HEY you changed your theme. It looks pretty!
Ungh, I have the same problem with used books. I know it’s completely irrational and what not but that’s why I don’t go to the library either. I just read better if it’s a new book with crisp pages AND UNBROKEN SPINES. >.<
Aw! Thank you! I decided my old theme was too fancy for the dystopian style I was going for. :p Glad you like it!
Haha! My sis-in-law always harasses me about my dislike (fear) of used books. But she grew up renting from the library. So, perhaps that has something to do with it. Hee hee! Glad we agree on book conditions. ^.^
People who break the spines are actually the worst, make my eyes twitch haha! I’m totally the same way about the world building! A bad book can still be interesting and intriguing if it has an amazing world. I keep books I hate as well! Like I’m throwing out one of my babies! Pisshhhh! Never going to happen!
Haha! Thank you! I really am trying to get over keeping books that I hate because there is no reason for it to take up space on my bookshelf, but… my bookshelf isn’t that big yet. I like to fill it while I can. Haha!
I’m glad we agree on a lot of these things! Thanks for reading and commenting!
My coworker is taking a class to get a library-related certificate of some kind (can’t recall the name) and her teacher actually told her she should break the spine of books! I work in a library and my department head would flip out if we purposely did that!
WHAT?! My heart is breaking hearing such a blasphemous thing! How dare they! Did they give some reasoning behind this? It better be some darn good justification! 0.0
I kind of agree with you on #2. Used books are not my favorite. I can do them if I knew the previous owner. I used to avoid the library, too, but I’ve gotten over that. I may or may not use antibacterial wipes on the covers…
Haha! I never thought of antibac wipes on the covers, but it’s the pages that bother me more. I am super sensitive to the look and feel of books and it bothers me not knowing where the book has been. I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds used books strange (and I’m slowly getting over my library fear, too :p).

THANK YOU! Finally, someone who understands! My sis-in-law doesn’t get it at all. She’s all like ‘a broken spine is a sign of a well used book’ and I’m just like: ‘but I want me books to look pretty and new!’ :p
Thanks for commenting!
LOL my mom and sister are the same way! My mom is a big reader and all of her spines are cracked…when I let her borrow my books I give her a huge lecture and if she breaks the spine she’s buying me a new copy haha! My sister on the other hand isn’t a reader at all so she just plain doesn’t get why it bothers me! 😛
Haha! I can’t remember anymore. I kind of went in and out with reading. I got into the Harry Potter series, the Warriors series, and the Immortals series, but outside of those particular ones, no. I didn’t really read much. And I have no idea when I really started to pick up reading (maybe when I started my blog? :p)
Ah! Yes! The respect of world-building as writers know the struggle of making them. ^.^
Thanks for commenting, Eve!
Though audio-books and I still have moments of disagreement, there’s not much better to do on hours long drives.
I re-read a lot, even though there are so many new books out there! My old favorites are like a cozy blanket–I know exactly how they’ll make me feel. My TTT
Speaking of audiobooks, I picked my first few from the library last week. I have to drive back to visit my parents and decided an audiobook would be a good use of time. We’ll see how it goes. :p
Yeah… I’m still working on the re-reading part. Perhaps that will be my goal next year: re-read books, which I want to do especially when I can’t remember a lot of them anymore. sigh

Haha! So many different kinds of people. :p But it sounds like you got a good system going with your mom. Hee hee!

Interesting list, especially #3. Was there a particular book or teacher that changed your mind about reading? I agree with you on #6.
