INKTOBER: Lil Red, Part 2

Read from the Beginning

The young girl stares at the woman out of the corner of her eye. She isn’t supposed to trust strangers.

Stepping further into the room, the elderly woman settles onto the edge of the bed. She sets the candle down on the nightstand. The glow casts shadows over the young girl’s face as she inches back towards the headboard.

The woman’s gray eyes widen with alarm. She holds a hand out towards the girl. “Oh! Ya needn’t worry yerself, deary. I’ll not harm ya.”

Still wary, the girl draws her knees up to her chest and wraps her arms around them. “Where am I?”

“Yer in me cottage,” the woman answers, a smile tugging on her lips. “I found ya in de woods. Half dead ya were.” She adds a nod to her words.

“But-” the girl stammers. “How’d I get here?”

Drawing back from the girl, the woman blinks at her. “Ya mean… ya don’t remember?”

The girl doesn’t respond.

“Ya were bein’ chased,” the woman explains in a grave tone. “By monsters.”

The girl’s shamrock eyes drop to the bed, her mind racing.
