Simon’s Questions

1) Which is the best book you’ve read? Like ever?
Ever? Gosh. That’s tough because a lot of the books I read years ago would’ve been the best book ever then, but now I don’t know since what I like to read has changed quite a bit since then… Additionally, I like and dislike books for different reasons, making them difficult to compare and choose. Ugh… Okay. I am going to pick ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ by Arthur Golden. It was such a unique and beautifully written story, and the characters were realistic and well-written.

2) Where do you find the best place to read is for you?
The best place to read? Hmm… I’m not entirely sure I have a place in particular. I sit where ever seems good at the time based on time of day, strength of sunlight, chair comfyness. :p Though, I have to say there is one chair in the house that I enjoy reading it more often than not. It’s a high-backed chair, which sits next to the fireplace. In the morning the sun pours through a window just next to it, to really give a fresh awakening and is one of my favorite places to read. Though, later in the day, other places may be utilized. Hee hee!

3) Are you ever put off by a big book or do you relish it?
Mm… Generally I have to say that I am quite put off by large books, but not because I’m daunted by them. It’s simply due to how my brain organizes tasks. I am one of those who likes to do all the small tasks first because I feel like I get more done that way instead of tackling the big task first. In that sense, I lean towards reading smaller books first because I know I’ll get through them faster. Getting through a book faster means that I’ll be able to read another book sooner and therefore I get to experience more books in a shorter amount of time.

4) Are you someone who reads the back pages first?
Gah! No!!!! Why on earth would ever want to spoil the ending, or any part, of the book? Reading a book is like going on an adventure. You can’t possibly start at the end of your adventure and then jump back to the beginning. It doesn’t work like that. Neither does reading. Reading must be sequential and no matter how tempting it gets to jump ahead I always read a book in chronological order.

5) Is there a book  you loved that’s a total departure from your normal reading? What was it and why did you like it?
Total departure? Wow. Honestly, I don’t think I really read outside of my normal reading now that I’m no longer in school… A lot of those books were well outside my range, but I can’t say I liked them. So…  I guess, if I have to pick… one book that I have great nostalgia for, one that I remember really enjoying even though I read it some time ago, is ‘Black Beauty’ by Anna Sewell. It was a truly amazing story to read. While it’s fiction it’s told from the perspective of a horse. Additionally, it’s a historical fiction, which I dabble in once in a while, but it’s not my usual go-to. Whatever genre it sits in, it’s a fantastic book!
