February’s Theme:
Best YA Romance Ever!
This is a tough one for me because I don’t actually like a lot of romance in my books and I definitely don’t go out of my way to read a romance book. I just prefer a plot line with a little more depth and a little more world-involvement. Still, I was able to find something. It just might not be at the top of everyone’s list for favorite YA romance, but nothing wrong with being an outliar, right? :p Here it is!
Lena & Julian
from Pandemonium
by Lauren Oliver
I think I picked the second book in the Delirium series for a few different reasons. Number one being that the entire world and plot are based around not falling in love because it’s considered a dangerous ‘illness.’ That being said, anyone who falls in love is considered sick and a threat to society. So, love isn’t normal or natural in this series, but is actually quite taboo, which may be why I was able to read through (and love) the entire series despite not being a fan of romance.
Also, there are other romances going on in this particular book, but my favorite was definitely between Lena and Julian. I like this romance because it wasn’t forced. In fact, neither of them want to fall for the other person. However, we don’t always get to choose who we fall for and this is a great example of how a love can grow over time and become strong, stronger than even our first love, perhaps.
Anyone else read the Delirium series by Lauren Oliver?
If you haven’t, you should!

Oh. I heard about that book years ago but never got around to reading it myself. I’m glad to hear it’s so good! Perhaps I’ll have to try and find a copy. ^.^

Wow that says a lot! I don’t often re-read either 😉 so I get how awesome a book or series must be for you to want to re-read it!

My friend is reading this book and I was really intrigued by the blurb. A different romance as a breather. I’ll definitely read this book someday this month. Or the month after. Or whenever it stands out on my TBR shelf.

Hee hee! Glad to hear other people enjoy this book, too, or are now interested in reading it. ^.^ I hope you like it as much as I did! Do you read a lot of romance?

Sometimes. I don’t usually read romance but I crave for the ocassional one. And I admit I find guilty pleasure in those cheesy ones with cliched character and story. But hey! They’re enjoyable!

I haven’t read this series, I used to keep seeing it when I was a shelver at the public library but I was never very drawn to it. Not sure why!

Yeah. I’ve heard quite a few people turned away from Delirium, partly because of the love=disease part, but I loved it. So, who knows. :p Everyone sees books differently.
Thanks for sharing and participating! I added yours to the list! ^.^

Me? 0 for 3 on the Calendar Girls’ choices. I have not read this series. I read the very first Delirium books, but I don’t remember much, and I definitely did not remember the romance. Wasn’t there an Adam? Am I imagining things? Lol. Anyway, you definitely made me want to read it, and I love how said it doesn’t feel forced. Too many times romance feels forced. Great choice!

Haha! I’m happy I enticed you to read, but I don’t want to give spoilers for the rest of the series since you want to read them now. :p Hope you enjoy!
And I completely agree! Waaaaay too many romances feel forced. (Turns me off on a lot of YA nowadays. sigh)

I’ve heard about this trilogy… but somehow I haven’t find myself in the mood for it because I’ve heard some mixed reviews… That said the premise is really interesting and to choose a book where “love is banned” as your favourite romance novel is a twist I like seeing!! 🙂 😉
Here’s my entry for this month!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi Matxi! Thanks for sharing your post!
I have seen some mixed reviews, as well, but I’m a fan of it. (And I’m pretty critical of books. :p) I recommend it, but everyone has to reach their own opinion. ^.^

I love Lauren Oliver and that series. As you said the whole world build about not falling in love and treating love like a disease I found as a nice twist to what was becoming nearly cliche arrange marraige idea in YA romance. A great series and a solid choice for the best YA love stories

I love Lauren Oliver, too! ^.^ I thought it was a great twist, too, and a definite 180 from regular YA. Thank you for commenting and thank you for agreeing! Do you want to join Calendar Girls??
