Monthly Update {September}

Writing

So… you know how August was a complete flop for writing? :p Well I made up for it in September! ^.^ I burned through my entire novel in two weeks, doing some major re-writes, and wasting weekends to do so, but it paid off! I found 5 beta readers and a critique partner in September, too! That means, while I left most of September void of writing, I made serious progress!

Now October is going to be all about making those last polish edits and preparing a query. That’s right! I’m gonna query again. ^.^ I’m excited, nervous, anxious… everything! Haha! But I have decided that if I don’t get any responses back from this round, that I’ll move onto a different novel. After all, I can’t waste my time on a novel that agents aren’t interested in, especially when I have half a dozen still sitting in my ‘novels’ folder waiting to be dusted off. :p

Reading

Well… reading went a little better this month, but not by much. A lot happened this month and it kind of threw off my schedule. So, I managed to finish two books and I’m like… twenty pages away from finishing a third book. :p That’s as good as it’s gonna get this month. Hoping for more books read in October? Haha!

Blogging

As some of you may have noticed, I’m in the process of making some blog updates. Why? For you guys, duh! :p I have been making changes for a couple months, but I’m not done yet!

This month I tested a new book review style. Unlike my old, highly-structured, excessively-wordy book reviews, I have modified. I shortened them. I focused on what was important for me from each book. I re-did the spoilers section. And I changed the layout! Whew! That was a lot. :p But it seems that my readers have been quite a bit more receptive of them. So, I will continue with this format. ^.^ Yay!

Oh! And I added buy links for each book, its sequels, and my recommendations based on the book. So, if you liked my review for a book(or want something I thought was way better than the book), please follow the links on the book review and buy it(or anything from Amazon through my link). It’s no extra charge for you to buy through my link, but it will help me earn a little extra cash while in grad school. Thank you! ^.^

  1. That is so exciting for you! I’m happy you made so much progress this month. I know how daunting it feels when you go without doing any work and feeling the pressure to get something done. I’m happy things are going so well. Have you thought of self-publishing if a traditional publisher doesn’t work? I don’t know if we discussed this in the past so forgive me if I’m repeating myself. XD

    Anyways, all the best and congrats on the progress again. 🙂

    1. Haha! No worries. It’s hard to remember everyone’s choices when you have lots of writer friends. :p
      And I don’t think self-publishing is for me. I don’t have the time or wherewithall to do the marketing myself. And, to be honest, I’m looking for the sense of achievement that comes with having someone say my book is good enough to publish. Does that make sense?
      If I don’t get bitten by an agent for this round (hee hee!) then I’ll probably just work on another book. (Goodness knows I have enough series in the works. :/)

      And thank you!

      1. Well everyone approaches writing with their own goals and ideas. Not one way is going to fit another authors way. I’m glad you know what you are looking for and I hope you get the chance to publish. Something like that would be an amazing opportunity and experience. 🙂
